Sunday, May 29, 2011

Our wedding will be Sunday, May 29, 2011!

Selecting a wedding date is not an easy task. You might think a Sunday is...weird.
Well, it's definitely not the typical day for a wedding. However, when the Saturdays at your church of preference are booked from May through the end of September, you have to start getting creative!

So, in the line of other creative couples, please plan to join us to celebrating our union and new life together on the Sunday of Memorial Day - at our "destination" wedding in Ames, Iowa! (If you're a Michigander, anyway!)

Finally?

Some people say, "It's about time!" Others say, "What took so long?"

But for me (Jessica), the timing was just right. Sure, I was anticipating. Yes, I had been wondering (for months) WHEN he would ask. Whenever he would indicate something special, out-of-the-ordinary, or want to talk about the future until a certain day, I would imagine that it would be then. I'm pretty hard to surprise ('cause I'm so smart).

I had no idea that Dan would propose the way he did. As I made my way to the downstairs of the Kiesling household (in my pajamas) the Thursday morning of December 23, 2010, I had flitting thoughts that maybe he'd propose now. But, I dismissed them. When I questioned whether I should change out of my pajamas, I thought, "He just asked me to come look at an ornament for his parents; why would I need to change?"

As Dan pointed out ornaments with family history, I thought nothing out of the ordinary. (After all, his dad had done the same thing the day before.) When I (finally) saw our ornament hanging in the tree, I wasn't sure that it was ours. I looked at Dan (hoping beyond reason that it was true) and said, "Really?"

Dan, possibly caught off guard (I'm supposed to say yes, not really), said, "Yes, really. Will you?" He brought out the ring - maybe to prove just how serious he really was. I said, "Yeah! YES! Yes, of course I will!"

Did he succeed in surprising me? Yes, definitely. I couldn't have imagined a better way to propose to the girl who has always attempted to figure out the future.

You might say, "Finally!" I say, his timing was perfect. It definitely wasn't my time; but, it was God's time. I can't speak for Dan, but in the last six months, I've had to step out in faith in some very big ways - not knowing how, when or even if what I hoped for would come to fruition. Instead, I have been awed at how incredible God is in His faithfulness and His provision. I am humbled and blessed.

Thank you for sharing in this journey with us.
